Hasnaa Elfawy is an Associate Specialist working with the Biology Team at the LGR where she will be employing in vitro cell models to gain insights into the biology of various human diseases.
Her professional journey commenced as a research scientist at the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, where she delved into the study of extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling in the human cardiac system. Additionally, she investigated pathological cell-cell interactions using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as a model.
In 2022, Hasnaa transitioned to Emory University, where she was trained to use zebrafish as a genetic model to unravel the complexities of gene function during the development, homeostasis, and disease processes within the musculoskeletal system.
Her current research focuses on CRISPRi screening to identify and characterize variants, genes, and pathways from GWAS.
